Elephant Butte.

So the past two days were so wonderfully spent. On Wednesday, my family woke up bright and early to head to Lake Elephant Butte. Now to most people, The Butte might be more of a pond–and I can’t deny, it gets more shallow every year–but, for New Mexico, this is still a lake.
Our family friends, the Garcia’s, got to come with us on Wednesday. We spent all of Wednesday driving in figure eight’s across the lake on the Screamer. It was my job to drive and give the girls the thrill they were looking for. It was so fun!
Every year, we always go cliff jumping at this one area, but since the lake shrunk like 20 feet, our usual spot was definitely not an option. But Sera saw a spot and later we saw some other people jumping from there, so we decided to go for it! It was a lot of fun! Cheese was Das Daredevil and was doing front flips off the cliff.
After spending a while on shore and trying to wait out the storm, we decided it was time to call it a day. All the Garcia’s, minus Sera, packed it up and went back to Albuquerque.

The next day we were up bright and early again and ready to be on the water at 9. There was a storm that was just finishing it’s passing over us, so we waited it out by eating breakfast. Then we got on the water. As soon as we could, we had that Screamer attached to the back and the girls on it. We rode for about 2 hours before deciding we should finally head back to shore.

Then Cheetah finally joined us and drove in! We decided to show her our cliff jumping spot. I took my phone off the boat this time and got some pretty neat-o shots! Check them out!

Then we decided to take mom back to the shore and go Screaming again. We let Cheetah drive this time. Let me tell you, that was not a good idea. She flipped me so hard, I cried. Literal. It hurt so bad, I laid in the water an just cried. She has this philosophy when you ride with her: The longer you stay on, the harder she goes. It’s KILLER. But it was a lot of fun.
We headed back to shore for my mom’s homemade tortillas. Mmmmmmm. Seriously, so delicious! Those are the best lake snack ever. Then, before we knew it, it was 5 o’clock and time to head home.
It might have been our last trip to the lake for the summer, but it was sure a good one.
